black and white africa power point

1. they are all really great pictures, & he caught them at just the right time.

2.
3. this ones my favorite because all the giraffes have there heads turned, and with the moon in the back, makes this look really cool

4. Nick Brandt
a.     What kind of camera did he use?

pentax 67 II with 120 film

b.     What is his reason for taking the photos?

to show the spirit in these animals

c.     What is his hope by taking these types of photos?

"I'm not interested in creating work that is simply documentary or filled with action and drama, which has been the norm in the photography of animals in the wild. What I am interested in is showing the animals simply in the state of Being."

d.     Find something he has to say about Africa and post the quote on your blog.

"You wouldn't take a portrait of a human being from a hundred feet away and expect to capture their spirit; you'd move in close."

post shoot relection

1. What challenges did you encounter while trying to get the photos of your first 3 prompts (Red, Metal, Happy)

some people didn't want to take photos, or you could find any happy people. and finding metal or red that wasn't super boring to look at was hard. and you couldn't really find people smiling to be able to take a candid picture.

2. What technical aspects of photography or the assignment in general (focus, framing, holding the camera, etc.) did you find yourself thinking about the most? Provide a specific example of what you did to do this correctly.

i remember holding the camera correctly, and the photos came out clearly, but my framing wasnt too good.

3. If you could do the assignment again, what would you do differently now that you know some basic rules of photography?

i would find different ways to angle the camera, i would and i would avoid mergers, i would look for balance, and ways to frame the focus of my photo.

4. What things would you do the same?

nothing really.

5. Finally - go back and edit your blogs with the 3 photos (red, metal, happy), tell me what rules of composition (which you just learned about) did you end up actually achieving? Did you have any?

none,

6. Are you interested in shooting those prompts again, why?

yes, so i can do better.

academic and community service photos

i picked the first photo of the academic & community service section, its with a boy in science class, wearing safety goggles. he has a beaker full of a purple chemical & he's pouring a beaker of green chemicals & a beaker of blue chemicals into the purple one.

1. Why did you pick this photo?

i picked this photo because he looks resale concentrated, and that makes you all the more interested in what he's doing. and with the blurry background, it makes you focus on him and his face way more.

2. What rules of photography are evident in the photo?

i think that balance is shown in this picture.

Finally - your next shoot will involve shooting academics, which means in classrooms around the campus.

1. Where do you think you could take photos like the ones you look at today?

in science rooms, math rooms, libraries, and art rooms

2. Whose classroom would you like to visit and take photos in?

mr canon, and whoever else

3. What will you do, as the photographer, to get amazing photos like you look at today?

find people doing interesting things, and adjust the camera to blur the background, and find different angles to take photos from.

filling the frame

the frame of this photo is filled by the chemicals from these girls experiment flying up in the air.

action and emotion

the action in this photo is kids at a food pantry or something, serving homeless people food. i think the emotion of the homeless is thankful and the emotions of the kids is helpful and happy.

the story

this picture tells a story because the boy is sitting by the overhead with a pen in his hand is talking out towards the class, like he's teaching and explaining something. and i think the story is that the teacher called on him to go to the front of the class and explain to the class how he got the answer to something.

40 greatest photos taken

What made you pick the photo?
Is there anything about the composition of the photo (this means how the photographer set the photo up in their view finder, NOT the content of the photo) that made your eyes gravitate to the photo?
Why do you think this photo made the cut of the top 40 photos ever?

i picked this photo because you can tell what is going on, and you can see around what year this was taken. it has a main point, and it also has a line showing all the men that are also there. and i think that this made the top 40 photos because it has a story all on its own.

i picked this photo because its freakin adorable. and what makes you look at the photo is that the koala is kinda like a baby (: & i think it made the top 40 photos bc the firefighter stopped to help one little koala after a huge fire.

i picked this picture bc these police men look like they have no emotions, but the police officer took the balloon heart shows that he does. and what catches your eye is the big white balloon heart. and its a good photo bc it shows the kid trying to hand it to the man, and then the man having it in his hand, while in full armor.

touching people

1. What do you think about this project and photo essay?

i think it sounds fun & it gives you a chance to see how random people feel about being touched or touching a stranger.

2. What would you do if someone approached you with a camera and asked you to participate in a photo shoot and then asked you to touch a stranger?

i would do it.

3. Think of an unusual photo shoot similar to this one that you think would be fun to go and shoot.

giving people a piece of gum and asking them to blow a bubble.

4. Finally, tell me what you thought of the photography, are the photos good? Do you like looking at them?

the photos are really good and in most of the pictures you can see both of the people touching each other, not just one touching the other. and yes, i like them.

avoiding mergers

this is a photo where its merging, and the firefighter is obviously the focus of the photo but he is cut off from the waist down.

balance

there is balance in this picture because there is a circle of firefighters in helmets holding up this man.

framing

in the photo there are five people looking up at the wall go people who have died in 9/11.. they are framed by these pictures.

lines

the lines on the photo are from the building, being the same over and over again you can see the man falling with his arms in the air in straight up lines too.

rule of thirds

in this photo the twin towers are kind of off to the right, not directly in the middle. showing more of the city, but still being able to know exactly what the picture is being taken of.

simplicity

this photo shows simplicity because you are only seeing the clear blue sky, the building and the smoke, making not too much going on, but still anyone looking at the photo knows exact what it is.

unusual & interesting photos, part 1

1. What is your reaction to his work?

i haven't seen anything like it before, but i like them

2. How do you think he made these photos?

i think he took three different pictures then put it in one.

3. Think about some buildings you have seen, which ones would be good to take a photo like this? Tell me about those buildings, where are they, could you get easy access to them?

maybe frost bank, it looks like all glass, & i think it has like 3 different point at the top. its downtown & yes.

red, metal & happy

red

 metal

 happy

First photos, best & worst

This was the best photo out of the ten that i took. i think its the best because it is candid & it doesn't look dumb.
I think this was the worst of pictures because he is doing something weird with his hands & i don't think it looks good.
